What's the difference between ADA and handicap units?
A handicap or wheelchair-accessible unit has ground-level entry, a 32-inch door, grab bars and room for a chair. An ADA-compliant unit is built and documented to the 2010 ADA Standards, including space for a 60-inch turning circle. If an inspector, permit office or venue will check, rent the ADA-compliant one.

What do renters ask about this unit?
These are real questions from rental calls, in the caller's own words. Each one is answered on this page or in the questions below, short answer first.
“I need maybe about 20–30 restrooms for the big party.”
“Are they bigger than the handicapped units?”
How many accessible units does my event need?
Public events need at least 5% of the units in each cluster to be accessible, and never fewer than one. A 20-unit festival cluster needs 1; two clusters of 20 need 2. Private parties need one only if a guest uses a wheelchair or walker. Confirm with your venue or permit office.
Rule text: 2010 ADA Standards 213.2, Exception 3 and section 304 turning space. This is general information, not legal advice.
A community organizer booking 20–30 standard units for a three-day event asked for "maybe one, two for handicap." At 5% per cluster, 25 units need 2 accessible units. We quoted 2 and placed one at each end of the bank.
Where should an accessible unit go?
Set an accessible unit on level, firm ground such as a driveway, patio, compacted caliche or short grass. The route from seating should have no curbs, steps, loose gravel or cords, and there should be 60 inches of clear space at the door. On windy lots, face the door away from the wind so it doesn't swing shut on a chair.
- Path at least 36 inches wide
- No hoses or cords across the route
- Door facing away from the south wind
- In the same cluster as standard units, not off to the side
What callers ask before they book
Every question below was asked on a real rental call. The short answer comes first, then the conditions that change it.
Do I need an ADA unit?
For public events, plan at least 5% of the units in each cluster as accessible, and never fewer than one. Private parties need one only if a guest uses a wheelchair or walker. If an inspector will check, rent the ADA-compliant model with paperwork.
Is a deluxe unit bigger than a handicap unit?
No. A deluxe flushing unit is about 47 inches square. A wheelchair-accessible unit is about 62 inches square, and an ADA-compliant unit is about 66 by 86 inches. Measure your gate before choosing.
What do 20 or 30 units cost for a big event?
Orders of 10 or more standard units start at $215 per unit for a weekend, delivery and pickup included. Add accessible units at about 1 in 20 and handwash stations at 1 per 10 toilets. We send a written quote by text so your committee can compare.
Where's the best spot for it?
The best spot is level and firm, within about 10 feet of where our truck can park. Keep it 20 feet or more from food, downwind of seating, and in afternoon shade in summer. On new-build lots, keep it clear of the slab, the dumpster and material drops.
What if the weather forecast turns bad?
Cancel free up to 24 hours before drop-off. For a Saturday event, that's Thursday by 3 PM. If storms or a dust event threaten, call and we'll move your date instead of cancelling. Weather isn't your fault, and we don't charge for it.
How much is a porta potty rental in Lubbock?
A standard event unit starts at $249 with delivery and pickup. Deluxe flushing units with a sink start at $445 each when you rent two or more. Construction units start at $165 per 28-day cycle with weekly service. A $29.95 fuel charge and tax apply. Your quote shows every line.
